Net Curtains Or Bamboo Blinds?

I was recently renovating a unit in Sydney when I came across that age-old problem of what to use for a window treatment. I had looked at many options including wooden blinds, standard curtains and roller blinds but in the end had narrowed it down to a choice between net curtains and bamboo blinds.

The unit renovation suited both of these options with the floor having been renewed with bamboo laminate flooring. One advantage with net curtains is that they can come as either standard prepackaged curtains that I could pick up at the discount store or I could get them custom made in any design I liked. In fact, even if I picked them up ready made, I could still choose among many different styles and designs.

The cheap net curtains would suit me down to the ground because I planned on renting the unit out and there is more of a likelihood when renting that the tenant may have an accident involving some of the interior decor of the property. In this case cheap net curtains would be ideal. If they were accidentally damaged, they wouldn't have cost us too much and we could replace them easily. I also liked the rustic look that net curtains gave and when they are bought in a length that is a metre or two more than the length of the window, the fullness produced by the net curtain is enough to keep people on the outside of the unit, looking in.

I had almost made up my mind, but then came the bamboo blinds. We had used bamboo laminate flooring so using bamboo blinds as the window treatment would compliment the flooring perfectly as well as give the relaxed pacific island type of feel. There were several types of bamboo blinds we could use. One was called a matchstick bamboo blind because the style resembled matchsticks lined up and connected together. It was made of many long individual pieces of bamboo connected together. Alternatively we could get a woven bamboo blind where the bamboo strands were woven together. These bamboo blinds offered many of the same advantages that net curtains offered in that they also allowed a great deal of light into the room while giving the necessary privacy.

They could also be bought ready made and quite cheaply from a discount store. But in the end, the rustic feel of the net curtains won me over and I went with them.
